Studies on Weekly Development in Trunk of Korean Fetus

Abstract
The morphometrical studies on the various items, such as; the crown-rump length, body length, body weight, and various measurements on the parts of the trunk, have been done on 3445 cases(1765 of male and 1680 of female) of the Korean fetuses aged from the 14th until the end week of the fetal life. The studies were extended over the developmental features of the trunk during each of those weeks by analysing the amount of the weekly increments with the weekly increment coffecients throughout the fetal period from the 14th to the 40th. Moreover, the analysis was further extended over the relationships between the value of the development in a week and that of the body length by calculating index. According to those observations the following conclusions have been drawn.
1) The mean value of the crown-rump length of the 40 the from both sexes was 361.5 mm, and was worth about 4:41 times of 82.0 mm from the 14th. The indices of the crown-rump length over the body length were ranged from 68 to 70, and were gradually decreased with time until the 24th, thereafter, they were stabilized until the entil the end of the prenatal life.
2) Of the chest circumference, the mean value of the 40th from both sexes was 319 mm, and was about 4.50 times of 71.2 mm from the 14th. The indices over the body length were arranged between 58 and 63, were gradually decreased with time until the 26th, therafter, they were slightly increased with time until the end of the prenatal life.
3) Of the depth of chest, the mean average of the 40th from both sexes was 83.9 mm, and was about 4.62 times of 18.2 mm from the 14th. The indices over the body length were ranged from 14 to 16, and were realatively constant during the period. from the 14th to the 26th, and were increased rapidly until the 35th, therafter, they were stabilized again until the 40th.
4) Of the chest breadth, the mean value of the 40th from both sexes was 97.4 mm, and was about 4.96 times of 24.9 mm from the 14th. The indices over the body length were ranged from 17 to 19, and were gradually decreased with the time until the 26th, and were stabilized until the 32nd, thereafter, they were gradually increased with time until the end.
5) Of the shoulder breadth, the mean average of the 40th from both sexes was 129.4 mm, and was worth about 4.79 times of 27.1 mm from the 14 th. The indices over the body length were ranged from 24 to 25, and were shown relatively rapid increment during the period from the 14th to the 18th, therafer, they were almost stabilized until the term.
6) Of the abdomen circumference, the mean value of the 40th from both sexes was 293.4 mm, and was about 4.81 times of 61.1 mm of the 14th. The indices over the body length were ranged from 49 to 57, and were shown some irregularity on their pattern until the 29th, therafter, they were continuously increased with the time until the the end of the fetal life.
7) Of the hip breadth, the mean value of the 40th from both sexes was 94.9 mm. and was worth about 4.81 times of 17.2 mm from the 14th. The indices over the body length were ranged from 13 to 18, and were gradually increased throughout the period from the beginning of this observation until the end of the fetal life.
8) Of the depth of the hip, the mean average of the 40th from both sexes was 56.2 mm, and was corresponded to 6.13 times of 9.2 mm from the 14th. The indices . over the body length were ranged from 8 to 11, and were gradually increased through-out the period from the 14th until the 40th of the prenatal period.
9) Of the indices of the depth of hip over the hip breadth, the mean valve from the both sexes were 53.5 for the 14th and 59.7 for the 40th. They were shown relatively rapid increment during the period from the 14th to the 26th, therafter, they were stabilized until the end of the prenatal life.
10) Of the indices of hip breadth over the shoulder breadth, the mean values from both sexes were 63.5 for the 14th, and 73.4 for the 40th. They were gradually increased during the period from 14th to the 36th, therafter they were decreased with time until the end of the fetal period.
11) The magnification of the development of the body weight at the 40th in comparison with that of the 14th was 88.62 which is the greatest value in this series, and is followed by those of the depth of hip(6.13), of the hip breadth(5.52), of the trunk height(4.82), of the abdomen circumference (4.81), of the shoulder breadth(4.76), of the chest circumference(4.50), of the body length(4.45), of the crown-rump length(4.41), and the chest breadth(4.06) which is the least value of this series.
12) According to the weekly increment coefficients(referring the table with the similogarithmic scale) wring the period from the 14th until the 40th, the 18th, 24th and 32nd were the periods for the changing the rates of weekly increment. The trends showed that the rapid growth during the early fetal life is followed by the retarding growth during the latter period of the fetal life.
13) None of the sexual differnece was found for the various development during the fetal period under the statistical support.
14) The similarity was found on the sizes between the Korean fetuses and the fetuses from the white race.
